Why the Royal Gorge Rewards Two Days

The Royal Gorge region packs more adventure per square mile than almost anywhere in Colorado. Two days lets you do it properly — rafting one day, ziplines the next, plus the Bridge & Park, real local dining, and a night sleeping steps from the Arkansas River. Here's a complete weekend itinerary built around verified hours, real booking links, and no guesswork.

Day 1 — Bridge, Rafting & the Arkansas River

Morning: Royal Gorge Bridge & Park

Start Saturday at the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park. The 956-foot suspension bridge is Colorado's most iconic landmark — walking it above the Arkansas River gorge is an experience that doesn't lose its power no matter how many times you visit. Arrive when it opens to beat crowds and get the best light for photography. Plan for 2–3 hours including the aerial gondola and park trails. Check royalgorgebridge.com for current hours and ticket prices.

11:30am–12:30pm: Lunch at WhiteWater Bar & Grill

Head east on US-50 to WhiteWater Bar & Grill for lunch before your afternoon rafting. Colorado comfort food, craft cocktails, and a full bar — it's a local institution and the perfect pre-river fuel stop. Open from 11am Tuesday through Sunday.

Afternoon: Whitewater Rafting with Royal Gorge Rafting

Book an afternoon half-day rafting trip through the Royal Gorge. Afternoon trips typically launch between 1:00–2:00pm and return around 4:30–5:30pm. The Royal Gorge Classic section — Class IV–V rapids through the dramatic granite canyon walls — is one of the most photographed stretches of commercially-rafted water in the United States.

This is what the Royal Gorge looks like after the day-trippers go home.

After your zipline, take a couple hours to explore what Canon City has to offer.
